No, not me–Chelsea Cain…well, sort of. Author Chelsea Cain was in the St. Martin’s booth today during the mayhem of set up, diligently signing galleys for her forthcoming book entitled HeartSick. Here’s a brief interview with her in the booth. Chelsea’s written a thriller that features a villain Chuck Palahniuk happen to call “the most compelling, most original serial killer since Hannibal Lecter.” Oh yeah, and it’s a woman.
Every publisher knows a signed galley is a coveted giveaway at BEA and is a great way to get the advanced word out. But, Matt Baldacci and the St. Martin’s team took it a step further a few weeks back when they sent out the HeartSick galley–complete with bloody handprint in evidence bag–to big mouths in the industry! Don’t underestimate the power of shocking the audience with the unexpected–don’t abuse it, but don’t underestimate it. It works.
Stop by the St.Martin’s booth on Friday, 6/1, to get your copy of HeartSick, otherwise you’ll just have to wait to get your hands on the finished book when it hits stores this September.
